The Bubble Blaster was a new invention of Tracy's that needed testing. During it's first test firing, all three of the Ghostbusters ended up caught inside bubbles.
Ironically, it was Prime Evil who ended up using the Bubble Blaster for a good cause: he captured Big Evil after the latter threatened to freeze Belfry.
