Elmo was a dummy in a double act with the Phantom of Vaudeville. They were constantly in conversation with each other and slipping into their old act. But the question remains: who was the dummy, and who was the puppeteer? The world may never know...

The Phantom of Vaudeville and his dummy
Personality[]

Elmo unmasked
Together, the Phantom of Vaudeville and Elmo were seeking revenge on music-hall performers Slapsy, Maxie and Nijinsky (a man in a gorilla suit). Naturally, they mistook the Ghost Busters for this trio.
Physical Description[]
Elmo appeared to be the ghost of a wooden dummy. He wore a black domino mask over his eyes a la The Lone Ranger, and reminded the Phantom that the only way to get rid of them is to unmask them. He was dressed identically to the Phantom, in the typical vaudeville outfit of velvet jacket, checkered pants, soft shoes, and straw boater. Elmo had a tendency to sit on larger person's laps.
Special notes[]
- Elmo is a pastiche of Edgar Bergen's Charlie McCarthy act. The weakness of being dispatched after being unmasked is a refference to Gaston Leroux's The Phantom of the Opera.
Trivia[]
- Brian Berlin is credited for playing Elmo, but he only appears in one brief scene at the end and his voice is performed by Tim Herbert in this scene, and all others before that.
