Zero is the mentor of the Ghost Busters who always alerts them when a new ghost appears. He does this by leaving secret messages in objects at General Store, which always explode 5 seconds after the message ends (and before Tracy can get rid of the object).
It appears that Kong may have known Zero in person.

He seemed very knowledgeable and understood everything that was happening.

He was never shown during the shows run, and never was brought up in the sequel series.
Trivia[]
Zero never appears in person in any of the episodes. It has been speculated that he comes from future, and he's the inventor behind all the Ghostbusters's paraphernalia (including the Ghost Command).
